Auto Design Prague Conference 2014 Hosts Designers and Students

The fourth annual Auto Design Prague recently took place in the city’s National Technical Library. Held on September 18th, the event presented the latest trends in automotive design with leading personalities from the field, with this year’s main actors hailing from Volvo, Qoros, Jaguar, Ferrari, Škoda and Citroen/DS.

This year’s presenters included Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president for design at Volvo, who spoke about Scandinavian design in relation to the Swedish automaker’s new design language. He cited the Volvo XC90, the first production car designed under his leadership, which will make its world premiere at the Paris auto show later this week.

Another speaker was Julian Thomson, advanced design director at Jaguar. Thomson gave a lecture entitled the ‘Ten Rules of Car Design’, which offered some helpful tips for design hopefuls seeking to enter the field. – See more at: http://formtrends.com/auto-design-prague-conference-2014-hosts-designers-and-students/#.VCrKvBbnLK4

2014 Zagato Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake

AstonShootingBrake

The famed Italian coachbuilder Zagato Atelier is celebrating its 95th Anniversary with this dynamic design for Aston Martin. Despite the “moniker” Shooting Brake, the aggressively aerodynamic shape is more reminiscent of a fastback with a Kamm style back.

BRITISH ORIGIN, ITALIAN TRADITION

The Shooting Brake body has had different meanings throughout automotive history. Since the 60s, however, it commonly refers to a luxury coupé, rigorously-styled with two doors and a functional boot space. This body was created to accommodate drivers’ sport and leisure passions, such as hunting or golf, while providing the exciting driving experience of a fast and exclusive GT. Nearly all of the most prestigious English marques include a Shooting Brake model (or an “authorized” conversion) in their model line.

95 YEARS OF ZAGATO

Ugo Zagato began his coachbuilding career in 1919 when he left the Officine Aeronautiche Pomilio, where he excelled for four years, to return to Milan to set up his own business. He did so with the bold intent of transferring sophisticated constructional techniques that combined lightness with strength from the aeronautic to the automotive sector.
